ACP Media is committed to providing and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment for all staff, and to provide such information, training and supervision needed for this purpose. This also includes mobile employees, volunteers, trainees, secondees and persons on work experience. Although ultimate responsibility for health and safety rests with the Company, employees need to be aware of their responsibilities under the legislation and comply with company policy.
Employees are required to take all practicable steps to ensure their own safety while at work, and to ensure that no action or inaction on their part while at work causes harm to themselves or any other person. If employees become aware of any potential hazards during the course of their work, they must report these immediately to their immediate manager or any of the named Health & Safety committee members.
Specifically, the Company will comply with all relevant health and safety legislation, standards and codes of practice under the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992. The Act states:
Every employer is required by the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 to take all practicable steps to ensure the safety of employees while at work. This includes the identification, control, and management of potential hazards, the provision of information to employees on hazards to which they are exposed, and the recording and investigation of any accidents or near accidents at work.
The Health and Safety Act applies to places of work in New Zealand no matter how large or small. It has one fundamental aim:
To prevent harm to workers and others in places of work and requires anyone in charge of the work place to take all practical steps to protect employees and others.
The Act can be downloaded free by clicking this link or purchased from commercial bookstores.
The Company will take all reasonable steps to ensure that all employees understand their own responsibilities for health and safety in the workplace as well as what the employer’s obligations are.
Each employee is expected to play a vital and responsible role in maintaining a safe and healthy workplace through:
- Observing all safe work procedures, rules and instructions;
- Early reporting of any pain or discomfort;
- Taking an active role in the Company’s treatment and rehabilitation plan, to ensure an “early and durable” return to work;
- Ensuring all incidents, injuries and hazards are reported to any member of HR or H&S committee members.
